Apple USB Superdrive

There's always been something missing from the Macbook Air, it's almost perfection has been marred by the lack of a CD Drive. There is just no denying that there are times when you really need to play or burn a CD or DVD, so rather than relying on friends or horrible Internet cafes, get yourself the sleek new Apple USB Superdrive.

No bigger than a CD case, this Superdrive is the must have accessory no matter what version of the Macbook Air you own or maybe you have a Mac Mini instead. The Superdrive is fully compatible with Apple Mac mini, Apple MacBook Air, and Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display.

As with any Apple product, the Superdrive is sexy and sleek and will match all your Apple products perfectly. It's really well designed both inside and out, with no separate power adapter and it works whether your Mac is plugged in or running on battery power and works with any USB connector. It's small enough to carry with you, so it's as portable as the devices it's made for. It's perfect for when you want to install software, create backup discs or want to watch a DVD movie. The only downside to this product is the lack of Blu-ray support, which is disappointing to us, but as Apple don't yet support Blu-ray on any of their devices it just goes with the territory.

The bottom line is, if you need a DVD and CD writer and player for any of your Apple devices that don't have a CD slot, this is the perfect little accessory for you, but if you're looking for an Apple certified Blu-ray movie player, keep dreaming.

Apple USB Superdrive Reviews (1)

  1. February 21, 2013 by R.A. Stewart

    Features
    Value
    Reliability

Sorry, but this “superdrive” in my experience is a piece of “superdreck.” At least half the time the various USB ports on our mini (and yes, this is a model without internal CD/DVD reader) don’t even recognize it. Now it has become more like all the time, and it won’t allow a disc to be inserted. This is with less than a year of wear. And of course if a disc ever becomes stuck inside (likely) one is screwed, as there is no mechanical ejector. I’m replacing this piece of junk with something for half the price from another manufacturer–ANY other manufacturer.

    Pros: Looks cool.
    Cons: Basically everything. See above.
