Are you looking for a point and shoot camera with a lot of zoom in a small package? The PowerShot SX230 HS is one of Canon’s three new compact megazoom cameras. This camera has a very similar design to the SX 130 IS except for a couple of stylistic changes like the better front grip and inclusion of stereo microphones to take better video. This camera uses AA size batteries for power instead of rechargeable packs. This is very convenient if you’re on vacation or somewhere away from a power point because you can just carry spare batteries with you or buy a pack in any store. If you rather rechargeable batteries, then you could buy rechargeable AA batteries that work similar to a battery pack, but you’d always have that choice.
The controls and navigation of the SX230 are similar to the some of the previous Canon PowerShot models except for the playback button which is now on the thumb rest area. If you have ever used a Canon camera, then it will all come very naturally to you. Face detection, display, menu, and exposure compensation buttons are above and below the navigational scroll wheel to the right of the 3-inch LCD and are very accessible for when you need to get to them in a hurry.
The screen is bright and easy to see even in bright sunlight. The navigational wheel is beside the function button and has top, bottom, left, and right pressure points for ISO sensitivity, focus (manual, normal, and macro), flash, and timer. The wheel is responsive with tactile stops to it, so you will not easily overshoot the image that you're trying to select. At the bottom of the camera you will find the battery and memory card slot, secured by a locking door. On the right side is the USB/AV port for connecting the camera to a computer or external display. With its excellent zoom, auto focus and small form factor, this is an ideal camera to take on vacation. If you’re disappointed with blurry, dreary photographs, then pick up the Canon PowerShot SX230 HS today to create truly brilliant photo memories.
