Before you start to read reviews and forums about the cameras you want to choose from you have to get an idea how it is actually feels in your hand. I have friends using both Nikon and Canon DSLRs so I had an opportunity to try them out. Being a girl I have smaller hands, for me the Canon feels definitely better. So I wanted a Canon camera in this price range and I started to read the reviews about these on the internet. Most of the reviews were positive on the 450D and I purchased it finally.I couldn't be happier, the included lens is quite good and the camera is pretty lightweight, so I can carry it easily all day if I have to. The layout of the buttons couldn't be better and the manu system is perfect. I hardly can find anything that I would make it better on it. I started to use it mostly in auto mode, but slowly I'm beginning to play with the manual modes in order to get the most out of the camera. I'm reading photography books also. By setting the shutter speed, the aperture, ISO manually will give a lot better results than auto mode, but you really have to know something about photography.I really like this camera, it's an excellent entry level DSLR.Pros: small size, easy to use, good kit lens, LCD, weightCons: viewfinder could be larger

I’m pretty happy with my Canon 450D. I have some experience with film photography and I own a compact digital camera already, but I wanted more creativity, better control of the camera. I had no idea what camera to get. Others recommended the D80 from Nikon. I went to the store to check out the dSLR offers, and really, the D80 feels great in the hand although it is a bit too robust and it's an old camera. I told myself to try the Canon 450D also before I buy the Nikon. The controls and the menus on the Canon are better in my opinion. At the end I went with the Canon, compared to the Nikon it wins because of the better usability.I'm using the 18-55mm kit lens with image stabilization, it is giving quite satisfactory results. The creative modes are similar to the old SLRs, but the auto mode is not that great. I can make better photos with my compact camera in auto mode than with the 450D in the auto mode. The camera is great for shooting long exposure night shots because it has a noise reduction feature for shots like these that works pretty well.I'd highly recommend the 450D for every amateur photographer, it has everything that is required for creativity.Pros: noise reduction for long exposures, great RAW, fast USB 2.0Cons: small hand grip, slow focus in low light

Before I bought this camera I did a lot of research on dSLRs in this price range.
