Looking for a great value digital SLR that also takes HD video? Then look no further than the Nikon D90, a 12.3-megapixel digital SLR camera. It has a high resolution 3-inch LCD screen which boasts a 920,000-pixel display and a 170-degree viewing angle. Perfect for photo and video and works great when combined with the Live View feature which offers new face detection technology as part of Nikon's Scene Recognition System (SRS). This also contributes to faster 11-area autofocus performance and controls the white balance.

The D90 itself is comfortable to hold and has a good grip. It is lighter than the  Nikon D300 yet it still feels substantial and well-built. Snapping away with the D90 is a dream. There is virtually no shutter lag and it can shoot up to 4.5 frames-per-second. The photographs taken are crisp, clear and noise free. The ISO can increase to 3200 on the D90.

The main appeal of the D90 will of course be the introduction of a video setting onto an SLR. The wait is over! The D90 records video as a Motion JPEG in AVI format at 24 frames per second. We've been stuck with the Nikon D80 This has been a long time coming and will generate a lot of excitement around the D90. The D90 has a lot to offer, especially as an upgrade.

Nikon D90 DSLR Reviews (3)

  1. July 17, 2009 by Patrick S.

After reading mostly positive reviews about this camera before I have purchased it. In this price range it seemed the best choice, so I have pulled the trigger on it. I’m really satisfied with what I got. Maybe it’s not perfect, but it’s hard to beat in this price range. It’s a D300 lite :)

I never had a DSLR before, I was a bit worried, but out of the box, the first results were imressive. I started with using the auto and preset modes. The 12.3MP resolution allows me to make some good crops from almost any photo. It has a video mode also, but it is somehow limited – 5 minutes for HD videos and no autofocus. It’s definitely not a camcorder.

I would recommend this camera to anyone who wants to buy a digital SLR in this price range, even beginners can get excellent shots out of the box with it, the image quality is great and it is easy to use.

I wanted to buy a camera that is more serious than a compact, and I can tell that the D90 is definitely a big step up. It has picture control features with cool presets which can be customized and saved as custom presets, so you can retrieve them quickly when you need.

The D-Lighting feature is awesome, also the 3D Color Matrix Metering II with Scene Recognition System makes making great photos a lot easier. I have a fast 4GB memory card in it which can store around 650 shots. The battery life it’s excellent, I have a backup battery too, with this setup I can fill the memory card up a few times with photos without thinking about the battery.

The included software for image transfer and manipulation is quite decent. If you want a great camera at affordable price that it more than a point and shot, this one is definitely for you.

I like very much your page. It is very informative, helpful (showing deals, giving choises and ideas) and also opening view at possibilities.

I am still looking for the camera I like to have it and I found here few with very good prices. I just have to decide what I really newed. I have baby girl and I am not sure if I should buy picture camera with the ability to make movie, or just picture camera? I already have Canon Optura DV camcorder but I am not sure if the quality is the same as in digital camera. Also having for example Nikon D90 I don’t have to carie on two cameras.
