There comes a time when everyone wants to move on from the limited point and shoot cameras, but making the transition to a professional SLR camera can be a difficult one. Choosing the Nikon D3000 will make this shift a smooth one, unlike with it's brother the Nikon D300 which we featured before.
With first time SLR users in mind Nikon have including a brilliant Guide Mode which will walk you through the different shoot scenarios on the huge 3inch LCD screen. The step by step instructions will allow you to quickly pick up the more complicated settings and in no time at all you’ll find yourself very comfortable shooting in the manual mode. You’ll literally feel like a pro.
The Nikon D3000 is an entry level SLR in price but features everything you’d expect from the professional Nikon SLR range. The incredibly quick shutter release will allow you to take those important snaps faster than ever. The huge range of manual control enables you to take some incredible indoor photographs and even in low light settings your photos will be crisp and balanced with the perfect mix of shadow and color to rival the Canon Rebel XTi.
With a massive 10.2 megapixels and vibration reduction system your image quality will be simply superb, giving you the ability to print out your favorite photos in incredible poster sizes with no pixilation or blur. The autofocus system has six fantastic settings – landscape, sports, child, close-ups, portrait and night portrait – ensuring all your photos are keepers.

I’ve always been more of a point and shoot kind of guy, I had no interest in an SLR until I got one as a present for graduation. This thing takes like a million photos in ten seconds. It’s so fast. You can’t miss a thing with this camera, it’s great for football games and taking photos of my dogs playing. I still think SLRs are over priced, but the Nikon D3000 is a pretty neat piece of equipment, pity it’s too bring to bring with me everywhere I go.
Pros: Super fast photos.
Cons: Too big to bring everywhere.
