Do you want the flexibility of interchangeable lenses with the burden of being weighed down by a bulky DSLR camera? The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G3 is part of a new breed of cameras known as compact Micro Four Thirds (MFT). The idea of these cameras is to combine the quality of DSLR cameras like the Canon T3 with the portability of point and shoot cameras. Bridge cameras like the Canon Powershot SX10IS already fill this gap in them market but they have their limitations, the main one being the lack of interchangeable lenses. What the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G3 offers is a compact, lightweight camera body that has an interchangeable lens system. This means that you have more creative control without losing that important portability factor.

The photo quality from this camera is great and with 16-megapixels to work with, quality is retained even when the images are blown up large. Panasonic's color presets deliver subtly different results than other camera manufacturers which will set your photos apart. Exposures look good, and the dynamic range is great. The camera’s RAW setting is also very useful, especially if you plan to edit your photos with editing software like Photoshop. There are many shooting modes to choose from, depending on how much you want to take control of the photos. You can choose program, Shutter and Aperture Priority, Manual and even a new mode called creative control. There are also a range of scene modes if you want the camera to do the hard work for you. There is a lot to choose from here that will cover any situation including portrait, Soft Skin, Scenery, Architecture, Sports, Peripheral Defocus, Flower, Food, Objects, Night Portrait, Night Scenery, Illuminations, Baby, Pet, Party and Sunset. You can also shoot video on this camera by using the dedicated video button. The G3 shoots full HD 1080/60i video using the AVCHD format. There is advanced video controls including a wind reduction setting so that you can capture great quality video.

To keep your camera sensor nice and clean, the G3 has a dust reduction system that will repel dust from your sensor so that your images remain spot-free. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G3 has a touch enabled swivel LCD screen that allows you to get extra creative whether you are taking photographs or shooting video. This allows you to focus by touching the screen and you can even track a subject using touch-enabled subject AF Tracking so that wherever your subject moves, they'll always stay in focus. When you want to show off your photos or videos, you can use a HDMI cable to connect the G3 to your HD television and enjoy your memories with friends and family. If you're in the market for a compact camera that will allow for creativity, then snap up the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G3 right here today at the best price.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-G3 Reviews (2)

  1. February 21, 2012 by Ruben

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G3 Digital camera is a micro four thirds camera with interchangeable lenses. It is very portable and weighs less 12 ounces, but that depends on the lens you have on it. The kit lens is great, as is the image quality from this camera. It definitely looks like the quality of a DSLR camera but it is much more compact. There is an option to record video on this camera but if you’re serious about high-quality video, look elsewhere because this camera has no microphone jack like a lot of the DSLR cameras on the market.

Pros: Amazing photo quality for a camera at this price point.
Cons: No microphone jack and battery life could be better.

I originally wanted to buy the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 but it was out of my price range and I just wanted to learn more about photography and this seemed like a great starter camera. I was actually blown away by the quality of the photos. They look just as good as my friend’s photos from her DLSR camera but mine was a lot cheaper. It’s easy to use and quite portable, it doesn’t seem as bulky as a DSLR. I’ve taken some videos of my dog too and the quality is really great. I’m impressed with this camera and I’m glad I got it.

Pros: better quality than I expected!
Cons: takes a while to learn all the features
