Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX9V

Our Price: $197

Do you want an advanced camera but don't like the bulk factor of an SLR camera such as the Canon T3i? The Sony Cyber-shot HX9V falls somewhere in-between a DSLR camera and a compact point and shoot camera with manual controls and a 16.2-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor. The lens on this camera is very impressive. It is an optically-stabilized 24-384mm (equivalent) zoom lens with a 16x optical zoom range. For its size, this camera has an incredible zoom and the Image Stabilization system ensures that, even for telephoto shots, the photos are crisp and clear. The IS system dues a gyro sensor which detects handshake and kicks in when needed.

This camera has a very stylish design. It has a black matte finish and a very tactile control dial on top. When the dial is on manual, you can adjust settings such as ISO, shutter speed and aperture very easily. The 3.0-inch 921k-dot LCD screen is very large and allows you to compose and view pictures you have taken on a really bright, wide canvas. Navigating the menu is a pleasure on this camera because the interface is really well designed. One of my favorite features about this camera is found when scrolling through the settings such as white balance or exposure. As you navigate through, the options are displayed over what you're viewing through the camera so this gives you a live view of the what the changes will look like before you apply them.

The Sony Cyber-shot HX9V has plenty of modes to choose from for all situations. There are great modes for beginners to photography like Intelligent Auto, Superior Auto and Scene Selection which will adjust the camera to take a great shot without you having to adjust settings. There are also lots of advanced modes too like Panorama, Anti-Motion blur, Background Defocus and Handheld Twilight. There is a dedicated video button too which allows you to record full HD video and there are several video capture settings to choose from whether you choose to record AVCHD or MP4. All of the settings are great for uploading your video to YouTube. This camera even shoots 3D so if you have a 3D capable television like the LG INFINIA 47LX9500, you can enjoy everything you have shot in 3D at home.

The Sony Cyber-shot HX9V is a great camera for those that want a great all-rounder with a powerful zoom and advanced features. Get it here today at a discount price.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX9V Reviews (2)

  1. December 2, 2011 by Jason

I bought this for my vacation because my DSLR was too heavy to bring with me everywhere and im so happy with how the pics turned out. It had a very far zoom so I could take pics of stuff really far away and they were still really clear. I got a hang of the panorama too and got lovely pics with that but I never used the 3D because I don’t have a 3d tv. I think its a bit of a gimmick…

Pros: very light, great video, really far zoom.
Cons: It doesn’t take AA batteries so if you run out of juice when your out you have no options.

Simply best in class!!! You can’t ask for more in a compact travel zoom. All the hype regarding Hx-9V is really worth it. Amongst the other features, very little is said about it’s awesome picture and movie quality. A common traveler must be feeling comfortable holding this little beast. It’s rivals might be offering you some extra features but the end result always speak for itself. An average user might not use 3D panorama or the GPS but these are useful features if you are more than an average user. Also there is an extended zoom mode(up to 64X) which blends the 4x digital zoom with the 16x optical zoom. And surprisingly, @64X, you cant get a really good result(I’ve done a 100% crop and the result was fine.
Quality wise it’s better than some basic SLRs. Yes, the price range could’ve been less by 10% but it’s a SONY product after all and quality doesn’t come cheap! A must buy for it’s portability, reliability functionality and performance. Highly recommended.

Pros: 1. Superb picture and video quality.
    2. Huge zoom.(16x optical+ 4x digital).
    3. HD video is really crisp & clear with sharp audio.
    4. Battery back-up is really good for such a feature rich device.
    5. 3D sweep panorama.
    6. User-friendliness.
    7. Feels good in hand with sturdy body.
Cons: 1. A bit costlier than rivals.
    2. Not exactly pocket friendly.
    3. Lack of viewfinder.
