40GB PlayStation 3 (PS3) Reviews (15)

  1. May 18, 2009 by Dave

Got my Playstation last December. I have never been a massive gamer and to be honest I only got the PS3 for the BluRay player. I thought the player would be poorer quality than a stand alone system but I was wrong. It’s pretty decent!

The games I got for the PS3 are Assassins Creed, Fifa 2009, and Street Fighter 4. I have not stop playing them! The PS3 is absolutely AWESOME for those that are into their gaming and even better for those who want to take gaming a little more serious than with a Wii.

I’ve had consoles since the 16 bit days (I know!) and this is by far the best I’ve had.

While I personally prefer the wii (what a name) ,my sons are never away from their ps3. They got one for Christmas the year it came out and boy was it expensive. It’s still too expensive in my opinion but its cheaper than it was, especially considering the price of some of the games!

We bought them Grand Theft a few months back and it cost a fortune!

The ps3 is in our sitting room and as Dave said, the blu ray player is great. its our DVD and blu ray player in one and works great.

I’ve played the ps3 at my friends house and it’s okay.. My friend did not have the best games, and I’m evening saying this about Street Fighters 4. Comparing games like Tekken to Streeet Fighters, Tekken is a lot better- way more moves, as opposed to the 10 or so moves per char in SF4.

I’ve played it and its a really good console. The blu ray player adds to its “awesumness”. The graphics and detail is really worth the money.

The system was very easy to set up. Everything is high quality. The graphics are excellent. It has a large HDD and it can surf the web and stream Youtube video. The games are very good for this console. The design is nice. It has bluetooth conectivety and 2xUSB ports.

Primarily I bought the PS3 to play Blu-ray movies, and to play on it sometimes, but ended up with using it as a small media-center – internet, music, downloading the images from my digital camera.

I have had a very nice experience with this system, I have no complaints.

    Pros:
    excellent graphics, large hdd, connectivity

    Cons:
    none really

I own a MS Xbox 360 and a PS3 and in my opinion the PS3 is a better console. I had many problems with my Xbox 360 it has even died 2 times, and I had zero issues with my PS3. I just want to play games without worrying about the console dying so in terms of reliability the PS3 clearly wins.

The online service is completely free. The games run smooth without any lags. The PSN service is similar to Xbox live, but Xbox live is not free, the advantage here is again at PS3s side.

It has a top-rated Blu-ray player and the movies look beautiful on my old, but quality CRT television.

I really like almost everything about this console. It is a bit more expensive than the other consoles, but it is worth it’s price.

    Pros:
free online service, exclusive games, upgradeable hdd, blu-ray

    Cons:
    price

I own an Xbox,a Wii and a 40G PS3 all in all the ps3 wins hands down as a gaming-multimedia device and if you have a 1080p tv and hdmi cable the image quality cannot be beat.plus online support and things like PsHome and PsStore let you interract with other gamers and purchase or Demo new games i cant think of another system with this much versatillity.

i own a PS3 and a Xbox 360 as well as the wii and a few older consoles as well and i mod alot of them and i have to say the ps3 is very modder friendly as well as them giving you instructions on how to add a new HDD on there own website which is very smart unlike the 360 where if you modd anything on it you are eather A banned from online play (unless you have a switch) or B have to reset your console just to play online games. I have to agree with ian on the 360 having to pay for online interactions thats by far the most non user friendly thing on the 360. Then agian the 360 does have good points like you can listen to any music you downloaded to the hdd unlike the ps3. Also the ps3 gives you the option to BUY movies instead of just rent them which is a big plus and not to mention they get movies usally the day it comes to blu-ray or dvd Xbox takes about maybe 2 weeks to get a movie IF that. I watched Punisher: warzone on the ps3 about a month or 2 before it even came on to xbox im sure its licensing agreements but really? Also ps3 gets demos before the games come out xbox only gets demos if the game is eather already out or comes pre-installed on another game disc. They truly have an amazing game library i do however usally only buy single player games that are on both consoles on the ps3 HOWEVER i do buy the multiplayer exclusive ps3 games like killzone 2 etc and sometimes i buy the game for both consoles like i did for resident evil 5 and street fighter 4 as well as fallout 3. I chose the ps3 as it usally has some great sleeper hits like Cross edge and Disgaea 3 and waiting for demons soul. Now dont get me wrong i LOVE my 360 just as much as my ps3 its just that the ps3 has more amenities then the 360 does at this point in time and i see them adding many more in the future as well.

    Pros:
free online activity, PsHome and trophy interactions + new events, Blu-ray capabale, SD card slots, open to modding without penalty, can buy movies, Decent video game library

    Cons:
cant listen to music from hdd while in game, Price

Well I have had my ps3 for almost 2 1/2 years now. Was a 60 gb unit and I had the HD scram on me. I then installed a 320 gb HD and it worked great. I have had playstations since ps1 I have 2 ps2s. Well we had a really bad thunder storm come in last night. I guess lightening hit the house. I went to play a dvd today and turned in on all I heard was some fring and zapping then smoke came out all sides. Well I guess I will give it a proper send off I know the whole thing has got to be shot. I will miss it it’s a great game console.

The PS3 is the best system value wise hands down. Not only do you get the Blu-Ray player which is the only next gen disk type since HD has died. you get a quality system. A free and high quality online playability. Great games, though not many exclusives because exclusivity is dead. Among other things it is a full entertainment system, not only can you upgrade the hardrive so that it holds more, but then from there you can add movies, music, pictures, and many other media files to it. i have used mine for movies and it’s great. The download option for them is flawless as well. It can be accessed remotely from anywhere in the world and provides other options as far as operating systems is concerned. People discounting based on one game they have played don’t have valid opinions in a true sense as it’s not a true overview. I’ve had my system two years, encountered the red ring of death on two 360 systems, had a hard drive fail on the PS3. Considering my PS3 is on about 15 hours a day that is expected, even as a computer. The 360’s died after a year then 4 months respectively. Also, had a Wii but it didn’t have enough games to keep me around. With the firmware updates the PS3 is only getting better as well, with functions continually being added. If you want not only a great gaming system, but a fully functioning entertainment system, the PS3 is the way to go, it may be pricier, but the value and hold up of it is much better comparably to other systems. i recommend the Wii if you are buying for young children only. the older demographic must choose between the 360 and PS3, and it is easily a PS3 in my eyes. Also, you can listen to music in game, it depends on the game but Sony enabled it with a firmware update in February. Some games simply don’t allow it. Killzone 2 is one of many that do. If that’s the only con for you though that’s pretty negligible.

I’ve owned a ps3 since it came out and its deffinately the best system out there. This system has a bit of every other system… For example: (hard drive) it got this idea from the Xbox, (Sixaxis) from the Wii, and it added a big feature by adding Blu-Ray… The Ps3 also has free internet, which means you can use internet through Wi-Fi. No Monthly payment like the Xbox. It’s all free. In my opinion its fair to pay the price on the ps3 because it has Blu-Ray. A Blu-Ray player by itself costs more than what you pay for the ps3, so your getting a verygood deal.

    Pros:
Wi-Fi. No monthly payments. All Free!!!

    Cons:
    None

The PlayStation 3 is definitely the gaming console to own it has the best games the best exclsuives and the most and it has awesome reliability plus an unbeatable price with Blu-ray included. This is a dream come true. I myself have two PS3 the 60GB and the 80GB both play PS2 games. PlayStation is gaming.

    My PSN ID: Ivan-

    Pros:
    Blu-ray
    HD Graphics
    Free Online Service
    Slick Design
    Price

    Cons:
What did you find were the pros of this product?

  14. August 28, 2009 by weaponx69

Even though I wish there was a more open game system out there, this is the best of two evils for now. I don’t pay for network hookup. I didn’t have to pay extra to play DVDs. I can rent blue ray without a hi-def tv.

    Pros:
Cons: Closed proprietary system. I used the install other OS option but its disconnected from Sony

    Cons:
Pros: Cheapest overall even though initially expensive. I got the first year it came out. I don’t have to pay extra for a lot. Its worth the expensive price because you end up paying for it later with xbox with the add ons and network connection costs.
