Believe it or not the Sony PSP has sold over 50 million units since it was launched, it really did take the world by storm and is still an incredible gaming machine. The PSP was always touted as being capable of doing everything the PS3 can do, but just on a smaller screen, and all you need to do is look at the seriously impressive graphics to see that this is true. Unlike the Nintendo DS Lite, which has graphics more suitable to children than hardcore gamers.

Of course the PlayStation Portable isn't just a gaming device, it's also an incredible entertainment system with movie and mp3 capabilities. The PSP was the first handheld gaming device to use discs, called Universal Media Discs (UMD). These days you can pick up games, as well as movie titles on UMD format, for pretty cheap online. The PSP also takes Memory Stick PRO Duo, so if UMDs aren't your thing you can simple load up games, mp3s and movies on memory stick instead. The PSP was also the first handheld device to feature such a large screen, and has numerous other novel features you don't find on other handhelds, such as the ability to connect with the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, other PSPs, and the Internet.

The PSP is the original and best grown up handheld gaming device, and is a joy to play games such as Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon or Final Fantasy IV. You can even access your old Playstation favourites via emulation, as these games can now be downloaded via the Playstation Network.

There are two versions of the Sony PSP, the standard model and the slim model. If you're into your colours, check out the pink psp available too, and if you're looking for the new PSP Go we have that too.

Sony PSP Reviews (10)

  1. July 21, 2009 by James

My friends have IPods, Nintendo DS, portable DVD players, and other portable gadgets. I think the PSP beats them all. The games are better than some of the PS2 ones. It supports various applications and emulators. There are a lot of new games and classic ones available for it. The stuff can be easily uploaded using the USB connectivity from the computer. The included memory stick is only 32MB so I have upgraded to a larger 512MB one which can hold a lot of games and music, also videos. The PSP has also wireless connectivity, so you can play multiplayer games with other PSP owners near you. The wireless also can be used for surfing the internet, so this one is not only a portable game console, it is a lot more. I’d love to have a harddisk in it, with a few GB of storage space. If you want to have the best portable entertainment system out there, it is definitely the Sony PSP.

    Pros:
    everything I can think of

    Cons:
price a bit high, no HDD

I was looking at the Nintendo DS and this one before I pulled the trigger on it. I found that the PSP is so much better than they cannot be even mentioned together. It is a portable miracle I would say.
I use it for gaming – it is a great experience in every aspect, for music – it is great for music also, watching videos – nothing to complain about at all.

The battery life could be better – it is s bit more than 3 hours. The good thing in it that it has a battery indicator in % and it will tell you how much time you have left before you need to recharge.
About the design, it looks great, but it is a fingerprint magnet – I have to clean it all the time.

Overall it is an excellent unit with all good features. I’d highly recommend it.

    Pros:
    pc connection, wireless, internet

    Cons:
battery life is a bit short

My 12 year old loves his PSP. He got it last year and took it with him on the airplane when he went to Taiwan to study abroad! That was the best thing we could have ever gotten him.. He had access to the internet, a phone, music, photos and movies, etc at all times! His host brothers enjoyed playing with the system as well! WORTH EVERY PENNY!

Pros: everything that it could do
    Cons: cost
    games are expensive

Sony PlayStation Portable is one of the best portable gaming console available in the market at the moment. It has an amazing screen which is good for playing games and watching movies and videos. The screen is of a superior quality and you would not get any dead pixels. There are lots of good games available for the platform and multiplayer is also supported which would undoubtedly make gaming more fun. Movies and videos look awesome on this device.

    Pros: screen, games, movies
Cons: costly games, some of my favorite games not available, fingerprint magnet

Sony PlayStation Portable is a multimedia system, you can play games in it, watch videos and movies, listen to music etc. The quality of sound in music is really good. But don’t buy this device for music alone. The screen is bright and glossy and watching movies and playing games in this device is fun. You have to convert the videos if you want to play it in this device. Converting is simple you can transfer the videos via USB transfer.

Pros: cool looks, great games, music quality
Cons: dead pixels, dust under the screen, games are costly

Sony PlayStation Portable is an awesome gaming system, the games available for this console are really cool. It is portable so I can carry it anywhere I go. The batter life of Sony PlayStation Portable is quite good but keep the charger handy as playing games uses up lot of battery life. It is also good to play music and movies or other video files. You can just drag and drop the music you want via USB cable.

    Pros: gameplay, controls, graphics
Cons: costly games, dead pixels, small memory stick
