Dell XPS M1530 Laptop Reviews (2)

  1. July 8, 2009 by Arnold

I owned this laptop for a few months now, it’s not bad but it certanly could be better. It came with Windows Vista Home Premium what gave me nothing but problems – constant Hard Disk usage draining the battery, huge lags, frequently needed restart etc… I solved this issue with installing Windows 7 instead, everything works perfectly now. One thing that is extremely irritating me is the glossy WXGA screen, it is impossible to view it in certain lighting conditions like outside for eg. I don’t like that it is widescreen either, although the dpi is ok on the 1280×800 resolution, 800px is just not enough for vertical screen space. But today all laptops are widescreen, if you want more vertical space, everything will look too small.
The keyboard and the touchpad are ok, although the touchpad could be a bit bigger. Above the keyboard there are mutimedia buttons which are responsive to touch with a nice blue hover effect, but they are almost impossible to find in the dark.

I would give it 3/5 and next time I’m going back to IBM.

    - battery life

    - wide screen (all new laptops are)
    - glossy screen
    - only 1280×800 resolution
    - noisy optical drive

Wow, thanks for the review!, comparing with ASUS G1S, it would be much better than G1S’s, just wondering on how much. The lack of higher resolution screen is a big letdown too. Most of the internal specs of 1530 is kinda similar to G1S, I wonder which laptop performs better?
