Samsung Galaxy S II

Our Price: $197

The Samsung Galaxy S II is the phone that everyone has been waiting for. It has a large screen, yet it is extremely thin and lightweight. The Galaxy S II measures 4.9 inches tall by 2.6 inches wide by 0.3 inches thick and weighs just 4 ounces which is very light for its size. It is a relief to see that the design of this device is a lot less glossy than its predecessor. Instead, the gloss is replaced by sharp designs and textured back cover. This design makes the phone look less like a toy and more like a premium handset.

It has a gorgeous 4.27 inch Super AMOLED Plus Touch display with WVGA 480x800 pixel resolution and support for 16 million colors. Super AMOLED Plus adds 50 per cent more subpixels to the display which makes text, animations and images more colorful, smoother, sharper and much more vibrant than on standard handsets. The display stays bright even in low power automatic mode and is very responsive to touch. Web sites and photos look crisp and videos play back beautifully – I was particularly impressed with high quality playback of videos from YouTube and Vimeo. Even though the screen is comparable to the Retina display on the iPhone 4, it gets slightly washed out in direct sunlight. It is still legible, so this is just a minor drawback. The front of Samsung Galaxy S II is taken up fully by the 4.27 inch display which is made of Gorilla Glass. On top of the display there is a 2 megapixel camera for video calling.

The layout of the phone is easy to navigate. There is a volume rocker on the left and a power button on the right. The micro USB charger port is at the bottom, 8 megapixel camera lens and flash in the back and there is 3.5 mm headset jack is on the top. Below the display are the home button, menu and back buttons. Samsung Galaxy S II also comes with Swype virtual keyboard which is a new innovative way of typing to increase speed. If you find that you’re reluctant to switch from a phone with a tactile keyboard because it will slow down your typing, then this will definitely change your mind. The Samsung Galaxy S II is a very sought after device for good reason. We’ve got a great deal on unlocked models that you can use with any network. Grab one today while stocks last.

I saw this review and just had to comment. I’ve never had any problems with this screen being washed out, its always looked perfect to me. I play tons of video on this on the bus home from work everyday and it’s perfect for doing just that.

I love how large this screen is, who needs a smartphone AND an iPad when you can roll them both into one.

    Pros: Large screen, lightweight.
Cons: Expensive when I first bought it, cost me over $600.
