Are you looking for an Android smartphone on a budget? The Samsung Galaxy Prevail is the perfect choice. This stylish phone has a reflective black surface balanced by a soft touch finish on the spines and the back cover. The borders are dark grey which gives the phone a nice balance. The screen has a nice curve to it and the whole thing measures 4.4 inches tall by 2.26 inches wide by 0.47 inch thick and weighs just 3.8 ounces. It has a 3.5 inch touchscreen TFT display with an HVGA 800x480 pixel resolution.
At this resolution and screen size everything is easy to navigate and the text and pictures are crisp and bright. The touchscreen has great sensitivity and it registers even the slightest touch. One of the best things about this phone is that it does not use Samsung’s TouchWiz interface and sticks with the original vanilla Android interface. I was never a fan of Samsung’s iPhone copy TouchWiz interface. With the Vanilla Android interface you get five home screens that display all the usual widgets and icons. The three virtual buttons on the bottom of the display are used to operate the dial pad, the application tray and the browser. The app tray is a vertically scrolling list of apps on a black background, which is standard Android 2.2 Froyo interface.
Below the display, you’ll find four physical touch-sensitive buttons for the menu, home, back, and search. As it is an Android device – the search is provided by Google and can be used to search locally stored apps and contacts. On the right side of the device there is a camera shutter button used to operate the 2-megapixel camera for both photos and video. On the left, there is a volume rocker and a micro SD card slot.
