bought my 30gb Zune when they first came out, and it still works great years down the road. Sometimes the back button doesn't want to work and the navigation button overall isn't too intuitive to input. However this is small stuff, I don't feel like anyone but me owns the music on it, it's only got what I ripped and what I download off limewire. All my ipod loving friends hate that.

Pros:
nice display

Cons:
buttons quirky, questionable battery life, NObody has accessories for it.

I bought a Zune several years ago wanting to get away from being 'owned by Apple'. Once I set up my Zune I could update and add music without ever being on their site. So when my 8 GB Zune was stolen I upgraded to 120 GB and am just as pleased. My kids have/had IPODs. 2 of the 3 have already have moved to Zune players. They love being able to share songs and not having everything 'Apple' protected. They love the larger screen and the fact that with a Zune pass, you can download as many songs as you want for the month, plus keep 10 songs permanently. Much better than the IPOD set up.

I have owned a Zune and an Ipod and I find the Zune much more user friendly and the Zune Marketplace makes it easy to obtain music.

I purchased the second gen Zune 4 months ago. It's a LOT slimmer than the previous one and while it's not quite an iPod, it's got some features that make it better.

The important thing for me was the capacity with a big screen. The iPod touch (and iPhone) have the big screen I was looking for but had the capacity of an old school floppy disk! This would not have mattered if Apple had have provided it's iPod users with an expandable memoryy slot but they didn't. With the Microsoft Zune I got the big screen with enough storage space for all my episodes I've downloaded and all without having to buy extra memory.

Despite the stigma that some attach to the Zune, I wouldn't buy into Apple's marketing hype. This piece of kit is far superior to any Apply product.
